There is a lot of competition in the online market today. Freelance designers, photographers and internet marketers thrive every day to maintain an online presence for prospect clients to notice them. It is common today to reach out thru Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, but nothing beats having your own website. WordPress is today one of the best and most popular options to get online fast and easy with a professional website. It has been a popular CMS over the past few years and thousands of blogs, portfolio and business websites run with WordPress as the publishing engine.
Salient is a clean and creative portfolio and blog theme that I like for its clean and elegant design. It is one of many cool portfolio themes for WordPress as you can see in my previous post, but it stands out from the masses! It has the right amount of flexibility to be used as a Portfolio, Blog or a Company website. It is a fully responsive theme (coded to fit and auto resize the elements automatically in mobile web surfing), coded in HTML 5/CSS3, has 7 available page layouts, 6 post formats, translation ready and includes a demo file. You can see the full features of the website here.
When taking a closer look at the homepage, you will see a stunning slider and a very clean, modern design with columns for services, client or product descriptions. Header and menu navigations are at the same row at the top, a full width slider and some content below it can be seen. Keep in mind when you look at the layout, that it is build using the themes comprehensive shortcode collection. The order of the page elements is easily controlled when editing the page.
The full width slider is a dynamic and animated parallax scroll type. It is also features a responsive layout and fit itself to the device users use.
The lower part of the homepage includes a site wide Call to Action button which is pretty useful for internet marketers.
The portfolio page is also another great feature of the theme. Each of the images can be categorized and filtered out by the user. The images can be viewed larger and they are linked to a specific post or page in the website.
There are 6 available layouts for the Portfolio page. Here we have the 4 column layout.
Salient included some other features to help you setup your site. You can manage your text with a standard and boxed column, add new elements like a toggle panel, section tabs, buttons and an attractive pricing table. The many page elements available are inserted using shortcodes and it is simple to do via the shortcode wizard.
This is an example of the pricing table design.
The blog section is well constructed and presents the recent posts in an attractive manner. Date of posting of the article is included in the left side, and a sidebar on the right.
The contact page includes a map where you can specify your location. A built in contact form can be seen and a text area for other contact details are readily available beside it.
Salient is a very good theme for those looking to have an attractive website for their online identity. It has all the features needed to build your website and the right amount of elements integrated. One thing short of this theme though is that it doesn’t natively support shortcodes, considering it’s a premium theme. But despite of it, this theme is well rounded. You can check out the live demo of the Salient theme in their demo page.
